It doesn’t matter what hair style you have or how much it cost you, it’s never going to look absolutely fabulous until its naturally shiny! Bouncy, healthy and shiny hair is a sure show stopper. Think about how many people out there walking around with lovely styles but their hair lacks that certain luster. Fear not, there are ways to achieve this, they may not be what you are used to but they certainly do work! (and they’re much easier than you think)

Not so secret # 1- Vitamin intake

How many times have you been to the hairdresser wanting the next best thing to make your hair grow faster, only to be told there is nothing that can do that for you?

Well, hair dressers are not trained in nutrition. They say that hair average growth is about half an inch per month. However that’s if you are not focusing on your health. You can add about an extra 1/4 of an inch to that statistic (personally) if you up your nutrition.

Be alert when looking for hair supplements. There’s a lot out there claiming to be the next best thing for “whatever you happen to need”. You could start with an all over multivitamin that works on your health as a whole and then look for something more specific to complement the things you are looking to enhance- like your bouncy and shiny hair requirements!

Different vitamins and minerals that hair thrive on can be found in zinc, flax seed (and oil), black current seed oil, kelp, silica and the B complex, biotin, pantothenic and folic acid.

Whenever your insides are functioning well, your outside will reflect that. If your hair, skin, nails etc are looking dull then you can be sure your body needs some tender loving care. If you look after yourself and nourish yourself, you’ll not only feel the benefits in health, you’ll be rewarded with a glow that no bottle will ever give you (not for very long anyway), and outlast any professional hair extensions you may have tried. (I’m not against hair extensions- I am actually saving for some. Though if I heed my own advice I will probably find I won’t need them by the time I’ve saved enough!)

If you are not a supplement person but still want that extra walk in your step, lovely shine in your hair and faster hair growth, then in my next post I’ll tell you how you can achieve this without supplements. The only thing you’ll need is a good blender (liquidizer), or food processor!

I go on a lot of business trips and there is one thing I never leave behind, and that is my hair care routine. Many people seem to think that hot rollers are a once a month accessory, but I use mine almost every day, just to give curl definition and a bit of extra volume. That’s why I have a great little travel set of hot rollers which I always keep in my suitcase so as to never forget them when I’m on a business trip.

The best way I have found to plan my morning routine using hot hair rollers is to heat them up before getting into the shower, so they are ready to put in once I’m done washing! Once they are in my hair then I am free to do my makeup, have breakfast, get dressed and then they are the last things to come out before leaving the hotel. If I spray with a flexible hairspray my curls keep all day, and that works for me whether I am at home or at a hotel!

**There’s a sprinkling of about 12 blogs on our site that are my friends and family’s experiences with hot rollers. I wanted to find out what their thoughts were about the particular hot rollers they’ve been using, or just started using.

I have very straight hair, it’s a family trait and I do love it – most of the time. There are some times though when I just crave a bit of volume, some nice natural waves to shake up the routine of long straight hair. I have never been into using a curling iron, as it seems more like frying my hair than curling, and the end results seem a bit artificial for my liking.
I actually won my Vidal Sassoon hot rollers at a bingo game, and am so glad I did! Otherwise I might never have personally known the joy of natural looking bouncy curls that hot rollers give. We’ve all seen the effects of hot rollers gone too far when hair comes out looking over the top and I think that’s why I didn’t try them before, but playing around with my new hot rollers, I realised that you can create hairstyles that are natural and give volume without looking too much at all.

I’ve found that my hot rollers fit in with my morning routine just fine, so getting great everyday styles for work has been a breeze.

I’ve** never been one for complicated beauty routines or hair care. I think that’s why I have always gone for ‘wash and wear’ type hair cuts that I could just blast with my hair dryer and be done with it. I’ve always been annoyed when using curling irons and hair straighteners because I am stuck to the one place till the job is done which is not my style at all – I like to multi-task!

I recently discovered that hot rollers are a great way of getting a fabulous fast style and they don’t tie you to one end of the bedroom or bathroom for half an hour. Now when I want to use my new heated rollers I turn them on before getting in the shower pop them in my hair when I come out and then get dressed and have breakfast, do my makeup and catch the morning news as I’m taking them out! It has revolutionised my styling repertoire, and hasn’t complicated my morning routine one bit.

My hair is naturally a little bit wavy, but lacks curl definition. This is ok most of the time, but when there is somewhere I am going to that I really want to look fabulous for, a first date, a big business meeting, then I find that the ‘beach babe’ hair that I have doesn’t fit the bill.

I have found that the best thing for my hair has been using small size rollers after a good hair mask for frizz control just in the ends and mid section of my hair. I don’t have a problem with volume at the roots, so putting small hot rollers in the ends gives me a great natural look with curl definition that looks polished, rather than bed hair curls which can be great for some occasions, but not when you want to look professional. The small size rollers give a subtlety to my hairstyle without the over the top volume that can sometimes come from using loads of big rollers – which is fine for a theme party, but better not worn to work!

The best thing I** have found for fantastic bouncy curls when I don’t have hours to sit and curl my hair with a curling iron is my Remington hot rollers. Hot rollers can be used for more than just getting natural waves, my hair is already a bit curly but I use my hot rollers for curl definition and it even helps me with frizz control.

The best thing about them I have found is that you can keep active whilst your hair is getting fabulous! You’re not stuck to a plug in the wall meticulously curling each section while the time ticks away, once the rollers are in, you are free to do your makeup and get dressed which saves a bundle of time. I have found that my Remington hot rollers curl really fast, so I save even more time getting ready, so much so that I even curl my hair before work and it doesn’t add that much to my morning routine at all. (Let’s me feel colorful at work as well as play!)

It’s a tangle nightmare where split ends abound because I am always trying to either make my hair straight with hair straighteners or to make it curly with a curling iron. The sad part is that neither seem to work very well on my hair.

It was my mum who ended all my hair care woes when she bought me some large rollers for Christmas. I had never used hot rollers before and was pleasantly surprised by the results – bouncy curls that looked like a salon job, but were simple enough for me to achieve at home. I did need a bit of frizz control, as my hair was in a bad state after years of reckless styling, but a trim and a hair mask later and everything is looking good!

My advice for those of us who live in the middle of curls and straight hair – give the curling iron and straightener a miss and try some hot rollers for a change!

I use the small size rollers mostly as I don’t like to attract too much attention!

That of course was the old me! A couple of weeks ago I let a friend give me a makeover, and told her she could do anything she liked with me. I was a bit aghast when she took out some huge heated rollers and proceeded to curl all my hair into them – I was afraid I might end up looking like Dolly Parton! To my surprise the end result was not excessive volume, but fantastic bouncy curls that really turned heads. The attention I got when we went out for dinner afterwards was very flattering, so much so that the very next day I went and got myself a set of the jumbo curlers and have been turning head ever since!

I’m** not ashamed to say I am very high maintenance, not as in ‘I give my boyfriend a hard time’, but I take pride in my appearance and I put a lot of effort into maintaining it. It takes me two hours to get ready in the morning, but I don’t mind at all, because I like to look my best every day, and I’m proud of that.

I recently got a new set of hot rollers by Clairol, and I have found that they curl my hair in half the time my old ones did, which means that my morning routine is potentially a lot less time-consuming. I’ve always been a fan of the bouncy curls that hot rollers give, so use them most days and now that they take half the time I love them even more! Now I can paint my nails to match my outfits in the time that I used to spend on my hairstyles, so my morning routine still takes two hours, I just get more done!

**There’s a sprinkling of about 12 blogs on our site that are my friends and family’s experiences with hot rollers. I wanted to find out what their thoughts were about the particular hot rollers they’ve been using, or just started using.

I’ve always looked at celebrities and models with their perfect wavy hair, bouncy curls falling around picturesque faces and thought I could never achieve such bouncy curls without a team of stylists to curl and crimp and brush and comb me to perfection.

That all changed for me when I attended a friends wedding recently and a girlfriend arrived looking just like a fashion model with natural waves that were just what I had always hankered after. I begged her to tell me which salon she had been to, but was promptly told she ‘did it herself’ at home, with heated rollers. She told me that the secret to getting a natural look was to have a variety of sizes, so of course I have rushed out and bought myself a set of medium rollers, large rollers and small size rollers. It took me a couple of goes, but I think I have now pretty much got the hang of them and am planning to paint the town red this weekend with my bouncy curl in tow!
